Keeping Your Child Comfortable
Uncertainty about visiting the dentist is common to most children. If your child also has special medical, behavioral or cognitive needs, visits to new places can be even more difficult. We offer “happy tours” to help make our office a familiar environment for your child. That way, on the day of their dental appointment, they will already know our staff and our office.
Our team is trained to meet your child where they are, and to accommodate his or her individual comfort needs. We do everything in our power to help your child feel safe about visiting the dentist. We offer multiple types of sedation to help make your child’s appointment a success. We can also break your child’s appointment up into several short appointments, if a longer visit is just too much.
Special Needs Sedation Options
Evergreen Pediatric Dentistry is committed to ensuring your child gets the high quality pediatric dental care they need. We offer a range of sedation dentistry options to connect your child to needed care. Sedation can make your child’s appointment a less stressful experience, as well as enable Dr. Susan to accomplish dental work more efficiently.
Our sedation options include:
- Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): A mild, very safe sedative administered through a soft mask to help your child “float” through their treatment.
- Oral Sedation: A fast-acting anti-anxiety pill that relaxes your child for a more peaceful treatment.
- IV Sedation: A higher level of sedation, safely administered in the comfort of our office by a pediatric dental anesthesiologist. IV Sedation is often recommended for completing complex procedures.
Communicating With Your Child In A Way That Works For Them
As a parent, you understand your child better than anyone. Parents are our number one partners in achieving treatment success! You know best how to help your child relax, and how to coax his or her cooperation. We work closely with you to co-plan your child’s treatment and how to structure his or her appointment.
Our special needs pediatric dentist, Dr. Susan Kim, is skilled at communicating with special needs children, and will take her cues from you, the parent. She actively listens and gives your child the extra time and attention he or she needs to become acclimated. Our special needs approach depends on building positive relationships and taking treatment at your child’s pace.
